Mauricio Domingo Builds a Sustainable Business Through Education and Integrity

Mauricio Domingo, Herbalife Vice President of Worldwide Member Practices and Compliance, after more than a decade as legal counsel for some of the world’s top IT and telecommunications companies, felt there was something missing from his work. Returning from a life-changing trip to India and Nepal — including a six-month stay in a Tibetan monastery — he found a renewed sense of purpose when he started working at Herbalife [1].

Mauricio and his team are tasked with protecting the business [2] of Independent Herbalife Members by ensuring that they understand and comply with the regulatory environment in the countries they do business. “There are over 250 rules by which Members have to abide,” he explains. “Our job is to educate them about the rules that exist and why.”

To familiarize himself with Herbalife’s business, he spent several months visiting Mexico and learning directly from Members. “I heard testimony after testimony from people who did not have much in the way of nutrition opportunity, but went on to becoming very successful,” Mauricio recalls. “Growing up in a country like Mexico, plagued by poverty and poor nutrition, it’s been very fulfilling for me to be part of a company that provides economic opportunity as well as good nutrition.”

As the role of Mauricio’s department continues to evolve as a partnership between the company and Members in the field, Mauricio is confident that their shared commitment to ethics and integrity is the key to helping them build sustainable businesses.

Mauricio says he wakes up every day thinking of how his work helps new Members around the world improve their lives and uplift their communities. Receiving ‘Thank You’ emails from Members makes overcoming the challenges he and his colleagues face every day all worth it. “When we get them, we are so excited,” he says. “We share them with everyone.”
